The Lessons of Good Friday.
Good Friday is a part of the Easter Tridium. On this day, Christians reflect on Jesus Christ's journey to the Cross amidst sorrow and blood for the salvation of mankind.
It is a day we come to the understanding of how Jesus Christ paid the ultimate sacrifice of dying for the justification and redemption of sinners.
The lessons of Good Friday are evident in the passion and tortuous journey the one who was slain endured. We are made to appreciate the price he paid to reconcile us back to the father, God Almighty.
1. Good Friday brings our attention to the Cross, not the structure of the Cross, but the one who died on it. It brings us to the realisation of the enormity of the death of the saviour. We recognise how costly his death was and hold on to the pricelessness of this act of sacrifice.
2. On Good Friday, the suffering of Jesus Christ on the way to his crucifixion shows the effect of sin. The weight sin holds and how it puts obstacles in the way of our journey to salvation. The weight of Jesus's Cross is a result of our enormous sins and seeing him stagger underneath all that weight is a necessary call to repentance for each one of us.
3. Good Friday is an assurance of the resurrection morning which we look forward to at Easter Sunday. We learn that though it seemed like evil tried to triumph over good on Good Friday. On Easter Sunday, the battle is worn as Jesus Christ's resurrection from the dead brings an end to the reign of evil.
4. On the Cross on Good Friday, Jesus Christ said, "It is Finished". This was great testament that his sacrifice had paid the price for our sins and afflictions. It is a guarantee that no curse from hell has power to afflict God's children.
5. On the way of the Cross, Simon of Cyrene assisted to carry Christ's cross. This act is what we are called to do as Christians, to see Jesus in our fellow brothers and sisters. To share in their pain and joy. To be their strength when they feel like giving up.
Good Friday is a sacrifice, a time to put aside all worldly desires, passions and to fix our gaze on the one who bore the sins of the whole world.
It is a solemn day, a feast day where we are called to repentance, to turn away from sin and to wear the cloak of righteousness.
